CBSE conducts surprise inspections at 29 schools; most violated board’s affiliation by-laws
A total of 18 schools in Delhi were inspected and three in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The CBSE also conducted inspections at Karnataka, Bihar, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh.
NEW DELHI:
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has conducted a series of surprise inspections at 29 schools across six regions to evaluate compliance with CBSE norms. Most of the inspected schools were found to have violated the affiliation by-laws, the board said, adding that it is in the process of issuing show-cause notices to these schools.
The CBSE Board conducted the surprise inspection at Delhi on December 18 and in Bengaluru, Karnataka; Patna, Bihar; Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh; Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh; and Ahmedabad, Gujarat on December 19.
A majority of 18 schools in Delhi were inspected, followed by three in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The teams also carried out inspections at two schools each in Bengaluru, Karnataka; Patna, Bihar; Ahmedabad, Gujarat; and Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.
The inspection was conducted by a total of 29 teams, comprising a CBSE officer and a principal from an affiliated school. The inspection team focused on verifying student enrollment records, infrastructure facilities and overall functioning of the school.
The teams found a majority of the inspected schools to have violated the CBSE norms and regulations by “enrolling students beyond the actual attendance records” and thereby, creating non-attending enrollments. The schools were also found to have violated the infrastructural norms of the CBSE Board.
“The CBSE has taken these violations seriously and is in the process of issuing show-cause notices to schools found in breach of regulations. The Board is also considering legal actions against the defaulting institutions,” it said. Further, the board reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the “highest educational standards and ensuring strict compliance with its regulations”.
