NSP 2025: The new policy aims to make sports a mass movement through community participation and school integration, aligning with NEP 2020.
The Cabinet has approved the National Sports Policy (NSP) 2025, an initiative aiming to reshape the country’s sports landscape and empower citizens through sports, ahead of the Olympics 2036 in India. The new NSP 2025 initiative will make sports a mass movement through community participation and school integration, aligning with the National Education Policy (2020).
According to the official PIB statement, NSP 2025 supersedes the existing National Sports Policy, 2001. The policy lays out a strategic roadmap to establish India as a ‘sporting powerhouse’ and strong contender for international sporting events, including 2036 Olympic Games.
The new sports policy also encourages private sector partnerships to transform sports ecosystems from grassroots to elite levels and ensures India is ready for international competition, while building a fitter and healthier nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on the official X account: “Today is a landmark day for India’s efforts to encourage sporting talent and become a hub for sports! The Cabinet has approved Khelo Bharat Niti, a national policy for sports,”
