BHU launches research promotion scheme for faculty, researchers, scientists

Faculty, researchers and scientists will receive one-time funds for up to Rs 20 lakh for newly sanctioned projects to cover cost of equipment.
NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi has launched the research promotion scheme, an initiative to support its researchers, scientists and faculty members.
The scheme has been launched under the BHU, institution of eminence and will be providing financial support to faculty members that have been sanctioned projects from external funding agencies for the first time but have not received sufficient funds to acquire equipment.

Such members will be provided funds under the research promotion scheme to support proposed equipment or meet the difference of the equipment for up to Rs 20 lakh. In case of exceptional circumstances, BHU might make recommendations for a financial support for up to Rs 50 lakh based on the proposed and sanctioned amount.
This initiative also provides funds to development required infrastructure and will be a one-time support for the grantee. BHU has constituted a four member committee chaired by BHU, rector to review the proposals under the scheme. The BHU, sponsored research and industrial consultancy cell, chairman, equipment committee and professor in-charge are the members of the committee while the development section, deputy registrar is the secretary.
The research promotion scheme is in line with vice-chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain’s vision to create an ecosystem that takes research and innovation in BHU to a new trajectory. Jain has reiterated that funds will not be an obstacle in ensuring high quality research and teaching in the university, and his administration will do all that is required to support, foster and promote it.
