Bhagavad Gita to be taught in Himachal Pradesh schools from Class 9

Shrimad Bhagavad Gita will be taught to Himachal Pradesh school students, says Govind Singh Thakur, state education minister.
NEW DELHI: Shrimad Bhagavad Gita will be taught to Himachal Pradesh school students from Class 9 onwards, said the state education minister Govind Singh Thakur. According to media reports, Thakur said this while inaugurating the divisional office of the Public Works Department at Padhar village in Darrang constituency in Mandi,
"We inaugurated the Divisional Office of Public Works Department at Padhar. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the people of the area," Thakur said in a tweet. He further said that Gita will be taught in both Sanskrit and Hindi languages, and Sanskrit language lessons will be introduced in Class 3 and above.

Recently, the Gujarat government also announced the inclusion of the Bhagavad Gita in the school curriculum for Classes 6 to 12 from 2022-23. Gujarat's education minister Jitu Vaghani announced it during a discussion on budgetary allocations for the education department in the state legislative assembly.
