Allahabad University to promote all 2nd year students, hold 3rd year semester exams online

The Allahabad University will now conduct third-year semester exams in online mode after students protest to cancel AU offline UG, PG semester exams 2022.
NEW DELHI: The University of Allahabad has decided to promote all second-year students to the third year. The university has also reversed its decision on holding offline exams after the students protest. The Allahabad University will now conduct third year semester exams in online mode.
“In view of the protest against the decision of the university given as per recommendations of the high-power committee formed over the issue, some students protested today (Friday) and sprinkled kerosene on themselves.”

According to reports, after this unfortunate situation, Allahabad University decided in an urgent meeting of the university administration held under vice chancellor Sangita Srivastava that all students of the second year of UG courses will be promoted and the examination of the students of the third year will be taken in an online mode.”
Students have been protesting against the offline exams since last month. However, after Allahabad University announced to hold semester exams online, the students intensified their protest. A large number of students also protested near the AU vice chancellor’s office for hours.
The university shifted to online classes after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. Stating the same, students requested the AU cancel offline exams since they were attending online classes for nearly two years.

The AU students proest lasted for 20 days, followed by which the authorities constituted a high-powered committee to look into the matter. The committee then invited suggestions from the students over the issue by March 10. Following this, it shared recommendations to the Allahabad University Vice Chancellor.
