NEW DELHI: The All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved the change in the duration of MCA programme from three years to two years. The change in the duration of MCA program will be effective from the upcoming academic year 2020-21.
The technical education regulator has asked all the higher education institutions to make necessary modifications in the course duration of the Master’s in computer application, or MCA, program as per the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) decision and provisions contained in AICTE’s Approval Process Handbook (APH).
The issue regarding the duration of the MCA programme was raised several times and it was also demanded that its duration be reduced to two years, like any masters programme approved by the UGC. In December last year, UGC approved the proposal for reducing the duration of the programme to two years.
“Hence the MCA course shall be of 2 Years duration from 2020-21. In view of the above, necessary modification in the course duration of MCA program may please be made in conformity with the UGC decision and provisions contained in AICTE APH,” says AICTE circular.
