AICTE asks institutes to allow lateral entry for military cadets discharged on medical grounds

NEW DELHI: The All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE) has requested all technical institutes to consider lateral entry for students of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and similar military institutions who were boarded out on medical grounds.

The AICTE in its recent letter stated, “It is requested that criteria for sympathetic consideration of such genuine cases for admission through lateral entry may be explored at appropriate level in your esteemed institutions which shall be immensely helpful foi such deserving students seeking admission midway to reshape their career.”

The AICTE explained that candidates while pursuing the engineering and other degrees are deprived of completing the course after being declared partially unfit and boarded out on medical grounds.

Students of the NDA and similar institutes where physical fitness aspect has been given top-most priority and in case of any unfortunate incidence of injury leading to surgery, the candidate is declared as partially unfit and boarded out on medical grounds compulsorily from the institute, it said.

These candidates also pursue their diploma BA, BSc, BTech, MTech courses simultaneously with the service from the same organization but, unable to complete it in such circumstances because of the difficulty in seeking admission in technical institutions.

The Council further said, “NEP 2020 already provides for multiple entry-multiple exit, crediting the courses completed in the Academic Bank of Credit and making use of it later, in the same place or elsewhere.”
